Is Your Cat Sneezing Blood?

Black cat If you suddenly notice your cat is sneezing blood, your first reaction may be to panic- it can be quite distressing and frightening. However, it is likely that the cause is something quite simple.

My sister’s cat started to sneeze blood one day and it was discovered that her cat had a long blade of grass stuck up her nose. Once the vet pulled this out, she was fine.

If your cat has a cold this can also cause her to sneeze blood. The membranes in a cat’s nose are very thin and tender and can become aggravated and bleed easily if she is sneezing excessively. If your cat is showing other symptoms of a cold (runny nose or eyes for example) then take her to a vet for treatment. If she is sneezing excessively with no other cold like symptoms, she may have an allergy which should be easily treatable.

More rarely, sneezing blood can indicate other health conditions such as high blood pressure, which can be corrected by medication, or a tumor, which can obviously be more serious.

If your cat does start to sneeze blood, it’s best to take her to the vet immediately to be on the safe side.
