russianblu It can be distressing to see our pets in pain, but there are treatments available to reduce your cat’s symptoms and improve her quality of life. Your vet may prescribe treatment such as Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs, or anti inflammatory drugs such as Corticosteroids, however they should only be used in certain situations as they can have adverse side effects such as liver or heart damage.

Glucosamine and Chondroitin can be used as a natural remedy to encourage regeneration of cartilage in the joints. These are available in either capsule or liquid form or as a powder to sprinkle on your cat’s food.

Try to feed your cat quality food without too many preservatives or additives. If you can, cook her fresh meat and give her vitamins and supplements if your vet recommends these.

If your cat is overweight this will be placing further pressure on the joints. Ask your vet for advice on reducing her weight.
Gentle exercise can help to keep stiff joints mobile, so try encouraging her to go outside or play.

Make sure her environment is suitable for her needs. Ensure that her litter tray does not have high sides she will struggle to climb over, and make sure food bowls and bedding etc is within easy reach without her needing to jump up to access them.

Make sure that she has a warm place to sleep in, as cats are naturally attracted to warmth and this could help alleviate symptoms. You can purchase products such as heated pads and cat beds.

Although there isn’t yet a cure for cat arthritis, your cat’s symptoms can be relieved to ensure that she is comfortable.
